A tombstone of former ANC secretary-general and Rivonia Trialist, the Reverend James Calata will be unveiled at his home in Cradock in the Eastern Cape  Monday.

This comes after a weekend-long commemorative programme which saw some of ANC and government leaders interacting with the youth through sports and political lectures.

The Reverend Calata became ANC secretary-general between 1936 and 1949 at the height of segregation laws.

Provincial secretary, Oscar Mabuyane says the purpose is to honour the contribution Calata has made to the struggle.

“The role that he played in conceptualising the idea behind freedom chapter up until it ended up to become a tangible document which we will claim in South Africa and which of cause ANC is anchoring its policies on moving forward we think that he is one of the unsung heroes less celebrated individual we trying to catch up and begin to unearth that make people know who Canon James Calata was,” says Mabuyane.
