Yanga, Villa share spoils

Mainland champions Young Africans and visiting SC Villa of Uganda battled to a goalless draw in an international friendly match at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

Yanga used the game meant to emphasise and create awareness on the fight against the killing of people with Albinism in the country, to introduce their new foreign signings Donald Ngoma and Joseph Tetteh Zutah.
The match also served as a build-up for the forthcoming East and Central Africa clubs championship, dubbed Kagame Cup, to be held in the city. In the match graced by Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda, Yanga squandered several chances due to inept finishing.
Their striking force led by Burundian ace striker Amisi Tambwe and Simon Msuva failed to break through the formidable SC Villa defence.
New players Deus Kaseke from Mbeya City, Malimi Busungu, formerly with Mgambo JKT and youngster Godfrey Mwashuiya completely failed to dismantle SC Villa’s defence and threw into the dustbin a good number of scoring chances, especially in the first half.
Busungu blasted wide a good chance in the 31st minute after receiving a precise pass from winger Mwashuiya and in the 39th minute Tambwe blundered with only goalkeeper Sebweto Nicholaus at his mercy.
Both teams made changes in their lineups. Yanga benched Busungu and injured skipper Nadir Haroub for Kpah Sherman and Pato Ngonyani.
Villa brought in Dua Abeid and Kamazi Dennis for Kasule Abdulkarim and James Kazibente. Yanga were awarded a penalty in the 79th minute after Kaseke was brought down inside the box but Msuva blasted the ball over the crossbar.
This was the second warm up match for the Jangwani-based lads who last week edged First Division side Friends Rangers 3-2 at the Karume Memorial Stadium.
