Two male suspects were killed in a dramatic shootout with the police in Pretoria on Sunday night.

A third suspect sustained injuries and was taken to a hospital.

The suspects are believed to be part of a syndicate that targets people travelling from O.R. Tambo International airport.

The three suspects had been following a female victim from the airport to her home in Pretoria. Police got a tip-off and followed promptly.

The suspects were travelling in stolen vehicle that police recognized. When the police tried to engage the suspects a shoot-out ensued.
The occupant of the house went to OR Tambo International Airport
“The occupant of the house went to OR Tambo International Airport and fetched two Angolan nationals and third person who she dropped off in Pretoria before returning to her house and when she got to the house she was confronted by the robbers and they demanded valuables such as jewellery and handbags,” says Vish Naidoo, police spokesperson.

Police say they have intensified intelligence on growing airport related robberies.

Investigators are hoping to gather more information from the third suspect once he recovers.

“In recent past there was trend of people being followed from the airport and being robbed at their respective destination and this started to become a growing concern for us,” says Naidoo.

Both the female victim and the police didn't suffer any injuries in the shootout.
